Reimagining Sustainability -IAMCR 2018 Conference – University of Oregon

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work on the identity branding and promotional print materials for the IAMCR  2018 Conference hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene. I worked on the project with my long time collaborator Jeremy Swartz (multimethod), who is a postdoctoral fellow in the UO School of Journalism and Communication. IAMCR (International Association for Media and Communication Research) is the preeminent worldwide professional organization in the field of media and communication research. Their annual conference has been held globally for over 50 years, this being the first time in United States.

Conference Identity

So right off they needed a logo a year ahead of the event so they could promote it in advance at the IAMCR 2017 conference in Cartagena. The central theme for the 2018 conference is “Reimagining Sustainability: Communication and Media Research in a Changing World“…  Sustainability. Reimagining. Change. And with it being held in Eugene Oregon, a city that itself has been reimagined from an obsolescent lumber town to an environmentally friendly, ecologically sustainable, tree covered wonderland, … I had a lot of concepts and ideas to work with. TREES. Directional. Cyclical. Transformation. Green. I then developed 4 concept variations for them to choose from and explore further…

Poster Work

Next they needed a basic poster to promote the IAMCR 2018 conference, as well as two posters for events taking place within the conference. Ecofair, a two day fair hosting local companies and community organizations specializing in sustainability. And the Ecomedia Arts Festival, a collaboration with the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, featuring curators and artists who reconceptualize media from environmental, ecological, political, and systems approaches…
